NANCY SHUPACK

MSW, LCSW

Welcome and thank you for visiting My Place for Peace. First steps can be daunting and choosing to work on yourself is never easy, so kudos for doing it. Life is full of uncertainties, challenges and transition periods. Life changes can be exciting and wonderful, but sometimes they’re necessary and even difficult. Having support during these moments is essential.

A little bit about my background:

I hold a BA in psychology from Marymount Manhattan College and I graduated from Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Services with my MSW degree. I have been in the field as a clinician and a clinical supervisor for the past 20 years working with several different populations in different settings. My specific areas of interest are anxiety, fertility challenges and pre and post partum support. I completed a training program in MI/CBT and my next goal is to enroll in training and be certified in EMDR.

I build a connection of trust with kindness, patience, empathy and humor making sure the space I provide is safe and fosters growth, healing and some self-acceptance. I am passionate about mental health and my focus has always been helping clients view mental health issues without stigma or shame but instead, as an opportunity to work on overall well-being.

One of my favorite quotes is by Carl G. Jung, “The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases.” I believe in a holistic and integrative approach to treatment, tailored for my client. I am very much a strengths-based therapist and use mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused techniques and draw from other modalities when collaborating with my clients.

Fun facts about me:

  • I’m a huge dog lover and I have a naughty but sweet girl at home named Piper.

  • I believe laughter and a sense of humor are essential in life.

  • Music is healing and I love going to concerts mostly alternative, rock and 80s new-wave.

  • I am a huge Harry Potter fan.

  • For me, there is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the beach listening to the waves and smelling the salt air.
